FAIRNESS and IMPARTIALITY
A fair judge starts with the premise that our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness must be protected unless the exercise of those rights unjustifiably impinge on similar rights of others. A fair judge facilitates due process so as not to deny justice.
A fair judge is consistent with rulings and does not change opinions simply by reason of the presence of certain people. A fair judge interprets and applies the law consistently as the law is written and avoids the precarious results of judicial activism; the making of law rather than its implementation.
Justice demands an impartial view of creed, race, gender, association, and affluence. To an impartial judge, the pauper or the king receives the same fair treatment. An impartial judge will hear all the facts before the law is applied rather than choosing in advance which side will win and supporting his decision by cherry picking the facts to reach a predetermined conclusion.
My record in the legislature demonstrates that I have a conservative constructionist view of the Constitution and laws of the land. I endeavored to prevent the governments from intruding in our lives while at the same time striving to make it more efficient and transparent. I will use the same restraint as a judge.
COMPETENCY and EXPERIENCE
A good judge has the intellect, education, training, and experience to discern facts from fiction and correctly apply the law.
I placed in the top quarter of my class in law school and passed the bar exam on my first sitting. I immediately began practice as a litigator. Within 6 years I started my own law firm which I have maintained since 1994. I am a board certified specialist in personal injury law.
I started and have owned my own business for most of my adult life. In addition to my law firm I have a real estate investment company.
I have served as Texas State Representative for House District 3. I have gone through the painstaking rigors of evaluating the implications and impact of the laws which I sponsored and on which I voted.
More importantly, I have a wife of 23 years and 3 wonderful children in whom we have been tasked with instilling high morals, good judgment, and common courtesy. I have learned from our Maker the virtues of temperance, wisdom, discernment, impartiality, and mercy. The combination of these experiences more than qualifies me to be a district judge.
